Jonathan Ponet alto
Jonathan Ponet was born on the 4th of August, 1993 and started to play the violin at the age of six. At the age of 11 he was accepted as student of Maarten Veeze in the ‘Young Talent Class' at the conservatory in Maastricht. At 16, he went on to study at the high school for the arts at the Lemmens-institute in Leuven where he graduated with distinction. His teacher there was Lei Wang.
In the summer of 2011, during a chamber music masterclass in Poitiers, Jonathan was taken by the exceptional attraction of the viola and so started to play this instrument as well. Since 2012 the viola has become his main instrument He is now studying at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels with Tony Nys.
Jonathan has had masterclasses with Liviu Prunaru and Diemut Poppen. He is a founding member of the Brant Quartet, founded in march 2009. With this quartet he had masterclasses with the Danel Quartet, Josef Kluson (violist Prazak Quartet), Jean-Marc Bourret (1st violin Castagneri Quartet) and Luigi Vecchioni (2nd violin Manfred Quartet).
In November 2011, Jonathan won 2nd prize in the ‘Dexia Classics', an important national music competition for young Belgian musicians.
